About a 25-minute drive away, Marzamemi is one of Sicily's most charming fishing villages. Around the old tuna-fishery and the intimate Piazza Regina Margherita cluster the former fishermen's houses, now filled with craft shops, wine bars and seafood restaurants. At sunset the golden light over the boats and the sea makes the atmosphere unforgettable.
About a 40-minute drive away, Noto is the capital of Sicilian Baroque and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Rebuilt in the 18th century in soft golden stone after the 1693 earthquake, it enchants with its Cathedral, noble palaces and the Corso Vittorio Emanuele. A stroll at sunset, when the stone glows warm, is not to be missed.
About a 35-minute drive away, Modica spreads across two hills in a maze of stairways, alleys and Baroque churches, crowned by the imposing Cathedral of San Giorgio. It is famous for its PGI chocolate, still cold-worked to an ancient recipe of Aztec origin. Wandering its terraces and tasting the chocolate is the best way to get to know it.
About a 25-minute drive away, Scicli is a jewel of Val di Noto Baroque, nestled among hills where three valleys meet. Its honey-coloured churches and palaces, and the picturesque streets of its centre, became familiar as filming locations for Inspector Montalbano. A compact, genuine town, perfect for an unhurried stroll.
About a 30-minute drive away, the Vendicari Nature Reserve blends golden beaches, Mediterranean scrub and wetlands where flamingos and migratory birds pause. Easy trails lead to the old tuna-fishery and the seafront Swabian Tower, among crystal-clear coves such as Calamosche. An oasis of nature and quiet, perfect for a day of swimming and walking.
About a 30-minute drive away, Isola delle Correnti marks the southernmost tip of Sicily, near Portopalo di Capo Passero, where the waters of the Ionian and the Mediterranean seas meet. The small islet with its lighthouse, ringed by turquoise water and shallow seabeds, is loved by those seeking wild scenery and wind. A striking spot for sunsets and watersports.
About a 45-minute drive away, Ragusa Ibla is the ancient heart of Ragusa, a tangle of alleys and stairways perched on a rocky spur. It culminates in the majestic Cathedral of San Giorgio, a masterpiece of Sicilian Baroque approached by a dramatic staircase. Strolling to the Giardino Ibleo, among UNESCO-listed palaces and churches, offers unforgettable views.
